Welcome to the all-new FGDP Yorkshire eNewsletter. As a division we are keen to ensure continued engagement with our members and we hope the new eNewsletter that will be sent out 3 times a year will help us keep you up to date.

2017 was a big year for FGDP, celebrating its 25th year. Many events were held up and down the United Kingdom and in Yorkshire we celebrated by putting on a fantastic Masterclass Study Day. We were honoured to host Matthew Holyoak and Sanjeev Bhanderi who gave a very informative and interactive update on Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry. I would personally like to thank Matthew, Sanjeev and all the team involved in putting on the day.

Alongside our restorative and endodontics day we also ran a course dedicated to DCPs, where Paul Franklin and Asmaa Al-Taie gave an overview of dental materials for the DCPs. Both days were well received and good feedback was given from FDs, GDPs and DCPs alike.

“Within the Yorkshire division we hold a long history in supporting and supplementing foundation training, and I am pleased to report that we continued that tradition in 2017.”

Sian Deakin, Abigail Chapman, Siavesh Toofani Lord, Alicia Wade, Rebecca Dean, Laura Reynolds, Harriet Jones and Daniel Tyler were all rewarded for outstanding achievement in foundation training. Kenneth Strain was also congratulated by winning the best clinical case in foundation training.

I would also like to congratulate the winner of the inaugural FGDP Yorkshire Essay competition, Jessica Talbot. This competition was open to undergraduates and foundation dentists to help recognize the academic achievements of young dentists.

2018 has seen a fresh influx of talent within the Yorkshire Division board, who I know will work tirelessly to continue to provide high quality CPD and support for the FGDP members in our region. Simon Cronshaw who has been a vital board member for the past 5 years, has sadly stepped down as he and his family have relocated to Merseyside. Simon has been instrumental in overseeing MJDF tuition, supporting the annual Masterclasses and most recently holding the role of treasurer. I would personally like to thank Simon for his contribution to the division and wish him and his family the best of luck for the future.

With the new rules on CPD introduced by the GDC at the start of this year, we have recognised the need for regular high quality CPD; and to this end we are looking to provide more easily accessible CPD this year. We will be providing our annual masterclass in the Autumn which is set to be a fantastic hands on composite day; but will also look to provide more CPD events. The first of these will be an update on Minor Oral Surgery for GDPs to be held in Sheffield on 8th March. Please find more information about this exciting event later in the newsletter.

Please keep an eye on our revamped website and all new Facebook page for updates on upcoming events.

Yours sincerely
