Welcome to the Spring 2019 edition of the FGDP Yorkshire newsletter.

2018 was a successful year for the division and we’ve got lots planned for 2019. In March 2018 we had a lecture evening with Dr Cristina Frezzini, specialist registrar in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Her lecture was well received and with that in mind we aim to provide similar evenings in the future. We have already organised an event on paediatric dentistry and we are also planning a future evening on the restoration of the root filled tooth.

The annual study day took place in September with an excellent series of lectures by Mr Amin Aminian, specialist in prosthodontics. His lectures on restorative dentistry made use of interactive technology in what was a first for the division.

In November, the division hosted its first hands on event. The composite masterclass with Dr Nadeem Younis, was sold out and received excellent feedback from the attendees.

In June of this year, we have planned an evening workshop with Paediatric Consultant Rachael Nichol, covering key areas of paediatric dentistry for GDPs. With this in mind we have two articles in this newsletter which we believe we all see in practice, management of avulsed teeth and patients presenting with molar-incisor hypomineralisation.

In 2018, we ran the inaugural FGDP Yorkshire student essay competition. The competition was open to students at Sheffield and Leeds dental schools and to FD and DCT dentists. We received a large number of excellent entries with the winning entry being published in the newsletter. We are running the competition again so if you know any dental students are FD/DCTs then make sure to let them know and they could get themselves a publication.

We are keen to be an active division with input from our members. If there are any areas that you would like covered in an evening lecture or hands on courses that you would be interested in having, then please let us know.

All the best for 2019
